Twilio and Orange Partner to Advance Secure and Interactive RCS Business Messaging in France

Twilio, a global cloud communications leader, has joined forces with Orange, one of the world’s premier telecommunications operators, to expand the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) Business Messaging across France. This strategic partnership marks a significant step forward in the evolution of mobile messaging, offering businesses a more interactive, secure, and branded communication experience—delivered natively through customers’ messaging apps.

As of June 1, 2025, RCS already reaches over 70% of mobile users in France—accounting for more than 45 million smartphones—and is expected to grow to 85% by year-end. Orange has selected Twilio for its proven global expertise in scalable communications to accelerate the rollout of this next-generation messaging protocol nationwide.

In today’s experience-driven economy, trust and transparency are non-negotiable. RCS helps brands build stronger connections with customers by enabling visually rich, authenticated, and actionable messaging—far beyond the limitations of traditional SMS. Twilio’s 2025 State of Customer Engagement Report reveals that three out of four businesses plan to invest in RCS messaging this year, and 81% of consumers already prefer it over SMS.

“We are delighted to work with Twilio, a global technology leader that is helping to drive the transformation of digital communications worldwide. This partnership will help to accelerate the deployment of RCS Business messaging in France. With 70% of smartphones now able to send and receive RCS messages according to our latest figures, it is set to become the new standard for mobile messaging. RCS Business Messaging offers improved security for brands, which creates a trusted relationship with customers while enhancing brand credibility. This in turn will lead to greater response rates and improved customer engagement,” said Amelia Newsom Davis, Director Payment, Messaging and Identity at Orange France.

RCS represents the natural evolution of SMS, enabling businesses to deliver enriched interactions through features like high-resolution images, carousels, quick-reply buttons, and real-time analytics. With support across both Android and iOS platforms, it offers a unified, native experience for mobile users.

Through this partnership, Orange will empower brands to engage with French consumers using rich, interactive RCS messaging powered by Twilio’s secure platform. For mobile users not yet on RCS-enabled devices, Twilio provides a seamless fallback to SMS, ensuring consistent and uninterrupted communication.

“Customers in France expect more than just messages, they want secure, engaging interactions they can trust. RCS gives businesses a powerful way to deliver rich, branded conversations directly in the native messaging app, with verified sender identity. We share a common vision with Orange: to make communication more human, more dynamic, relevant and amazing. This partnership will enable businesses to boost engagement, efficiency, and trust, while offering a more dynamic experience that truly leaves an impression on customers. And in a landscape filled with plenty of competing digital noise, RCS represents an opportunity to stand out from the crowd,” said Tony Cheema, Vice President, EMEA, Communications at Twilio.

Together, Twilio and Orange are redefining how businesses connect with consumers in France—making messaging more secure, engaging, and effective than ever before.
