Vincent Merlin has joined Forcepoint as Chief Marketing Officer, taking on responsibility for the company’s global marketing organization as enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence continues to create new challenges around data security.

Merlin will report to CEO Ryan Windham and oversee global marketing functions including brand, demand generation, product marketing, and analyst relations. His appointment comes as Forcepoint focuses on the growing intersection of AI, enterprise data, and cybersecurity.

Merlin brings more than two decades of enterprise technology and cybersecurity marketing experience to the role. He joins Forcepoint from Proofpoint, where he spent 10 years in senior marketing positions, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Global Growth Marketing. Before Proofpoint, he held marketing leadership roles at AVEVA, Dell EMC, and RSA.

His background comes at a time when the role of cybersecurity marketing is changing. Organizations are moving beyond conventional software security discussions as AI systems gain access to increasingly sensitive business information. Generative and agentic AI introduce new questions around data access, governance, visibility, and how organizations maintain control over information.

For marketers, this shift also creates a more complex communication challenge. Cybersecurity companies increasingly need to explain technical issues to audiences that can include security leaders, technology executives, business decision-makers, and boards. Marketing therefore plays a role in translating emerging security risks into business implications.

AI is also changing marketing operations themselves. Teams are adopting AI for research, content development, audience analysis, personalization, and campaign optimization, while simultaneously considering data governance and security implications.

Merlin’s appointment reflects this changing environment, where cybersecurity, AI, data, and go-to-market strategy are becoming increasingly connected.

For the wider MarTech ecosystem, the move highlights how AI adoption is influencing not only marketing technology but also the security and governance frameworks surrounding enterprise marketing and customer data.

As organizations continue expanding their use of AI, marketing leaders in cybersecurity will increasingly have to address both the opportunities created by the technology and the risks that accompany greater access to enterprise information.
