Spline Becomes the First 3D Design Platform to Empower Designers to Deliver Interactive Experiences Across Multiple Platforms

On 13th August 2024, Spline, a collaborative 3D design platform, announced the launch of Android support, marking a significant milestone in 3D design. This update allows designers to create 3D content for Android devices, build interactions, and deploy them natively to any spatial device, mobile application, or website without the need for coding. Spline is now the only 3D design platform that offers these capabilities across both Android and Apple ecosystems. Alongside this, Spline introduced new features, including a real-time API and WebHooks, enabling integration with AI to create rich, interactive 3D experiences.

In addition to its expanded capabilities, Spline revealed a successful $10 million Series A funding round, led by Third Point Ventures, with participation from Gradient Ventures, Y Combinator, Firestreak, and industry leaders such as Jorn van Dijk (CEO of Framer) and Guillermo Rauch (CEO of Vercel). Dan Moskowitz, Partner at Third Point Ventures, has joined Spline’s board of directors. The funds will be allocated towards ongoing product development, focusing on integrating AI into 3D design and streamlining the creative process. Over the past year, Spline’s user base has doubled, with the community creating over 7 million 3D scenes.

“We were amazed at how easy it was to create and collaborate within Spline and seamlessly push designs into production,” said Dan Moskowitz, Partner at Third Point Ventures. “Traditional 3D design tools, most of which originated decades ago, are challenging to use and slow to deliver results. Spline’s early success and the innovative use cases its users are developing show that it is revolutionizing the way people approach 3D design and the value it can bring.”

Pioneering the Future of 3D Content Creation

Spline offers a web-based platform that empowers designers to create stunning 3D content and interactive experiences without requiring coding skills. The platform’s intuitive interface and robust features have attracted millions of users worldwide, from individual designers to large enterprises.

Alejandro León, founder and CEO of Spline, emphasized the significance of this innovation: “Previously, creating interactive 3D for mobile devices required the use of complex game engines, which was impractical for designers focused on app development. We aimed to fundamentally change this by making 3D content creation more accessible and efficient.”

Spline’s expansion into the Android ecosystem now enables the creation of 3D content for a variety of devices, including phones, tablets, smartwatches, smart TVs, and Android Auto, following its earlier support for the Apple ecosystem, including Vision Pro.

The new features introduced by Spline include:

  • Real-time API: This feature enables interactive experiences that react dynamically to outside inputs by allowing designers to connect APIs with variables, trigger events, and make changes inside a scene based on real-time data.
  • Webhooks: Webhooks enable creators to generate custom URLs for each scene, allowing integration with third-party tools to push events, notifications, or data into the scene, enhancing interactivity and connectivity.
  • AI Experiences: The combination of the real-time API and Webhooks allows designers to link with AI models, control 3D objects based on AI-generated content, and create contextual UIs, enabling the development of AI-driven 3D experiences without the need for coding.

Spline also integrates AI generation tools within its 3D editor, offering features such as 3D vector editing, motion, interactive experiences, physics, particles, and more.

Since its launch, Spline has gained widespread acclaim within the design community for its user-friendly interface and powerful tools. The platform has been embraced by leading companies across various sectors, highlighting its potential to transform 3D design workflows.

Filipe Soares, Design Lead at Alloy Integrations, remarked, “We recently rebranded Alloy, and Spline has been instrumental in creating high-quality assets for our social media, landing pages, and videos. The 3D output is polished, and the interactive capabilities are remarkable. Spline arrived at the perfect time, offering full creative control without the need for cumbersome tools like Cinema 4D or lengthy Three.js coding.”

As the demand for 3D content continues to surge across industries such as e-commerce, gaming, and spatial computing, Spline stands out as the premier platform for designers aiming to create immersive, interactive, and production-ready 3D experiences.
