On September 15th, Adobe officially acquired Figma, a design collaboration tool, for $20 billion — a deal expected to close in 2023. The merger agreement will redefine the future of creativity and expand accessibility and education opportunities for designers.

For Adobe, the acquisition is access to a robust collaboration workflow platform. Meanwhile, Figma will benefit from the partnership by leveraging Adobe’s technology and resources, allowing both companies to accelerate their growth.
Figma users expressed worries about the acquisition. However, the company reassures them about its operational autonomy. Its CEO and Co-founder Dylan Field will keep his position and report to Adobe President of Digital Media Business David Wadhwani.
Also, Figma will remain free for educational purposes and users can expect the pricing models to stay the same for now.
