Ever Wanted Your Docs to Speak? Gemini in Google Docs Now Reads Aloud!
Google has introduced a new Gemini-powered feature in Google Docs that allows users to listen to their documents, enhancing accessibility and productivity. The update enables readers to convert written content into natural-sounding audio directly within Docs, with options to adjust playback speed and voice style. Authors can also insert customizable audio buttons into documents, making it easier for collaborators to engage with content through listening rather than reading. This functionality is particularly useful for proofreading, improving focus, and increasing document accessibility for a wider audience.

The rollout began on August 18 for Rapid Release domains and will extend to Scheduled Release domains starting August 25. Initially available in English on the desktop version, the feature is accessible to select Google Workspace plans, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Gemini for Education or Business add-ons, and AI Pro and Ultra tiers. By integrating audio directly into Google Docs, this update underscores Google’s commitment to making workplace collaboration more dynamic and inclusive through AI-driven tools.
