On September 24, 2024, Google Cloud expanded its strategic partnership with Snap Inc. to enhance generative AI features in My AI, Snapchat’s AI-powered chatbot and one of the largest consumer chatbots today.
Snapchat will use Gemini on Vertex AI, known for its multimodal capabilities, to process various types of information—text, audio, image, video, and code—enabling more interactive features for its users. For instance, Snapchatters can now ask My AI to translate a street sign photo while abroad or identify the healthiest snack from a video.
Snapchat, first launched on Google Cloud in 2011, has grown to over 850 million monthly active users by offering a fast, fun way to communicate visually. Its focus on core product values continues to set it apart from other platforms.
