Confluent, the leading name in data streaming, has announced its acquisition of WarpStream, a platform compatible with Apache Kafka® that specializes in Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) data streaming. This move enables Confluent to offer real-time data streaming solutions across various environments—whether on-premises, in the cloud, or through a customer’s own cloud infrastructure.
WarpStream’s BYOC model is tailored for organizations handling large-scale workloads with less stringent latency requirements, making it ideal for applications like logging, observability, and data lake integration. With WarpStream now part of its portfolio, Confluent provides a comprehensive suite of data streaming solutions that cater to every type of customer, from those needing fully managed services through Confluent Cloud, to those preferring self-managed options with Confluent Platform, and now, to those seeking BYOC flexibility with WarpStream.
Addressing the challenges many organizations face in managing their data estates—often fragmented and siloed—Confluent’s recent data streaming report reveals that 91% of IT leaders are relying on data streaming platforms to advance their data strategies. Confluent’s goal is to facilitate data movement regardless of an organization’s specific configurations or workloads.

Currently, Confluent offers Confluent Cloud, a fully managed service that reduces operational burdens but offers less control, and Confluent Platform, which provides greater flexibility but requires more management. The new BYOC option fills the gap between these two extremes. It involves a shared responsibility model where both the customer and the vendor handle the system’s operations and health, providing deployment flexibility with some added operational overhead. This model is especially useful for customers facing regulatory or contractual constraints that prevent them from using a fully managed solution.
WarpStream’s innovative BYOC approach, built on object storage, aligns with Confluent’s Kora engine and enhances managed data streaming benefits within the customer’s cloud environment. As part of Confluent, WarpStream will continue to deliver a seamless BYOC experience and advance its feature set, including processing and governance, to address high-volume logging and observability needs.
“Confluent is committed to offering data streaming solutions that meet every customer’s needs and workload requirements,” said Jay Kreps, Confluent’s co-founder and CEO. “WarpStream has impressed us with its BYOC approach, and this acquisition allows us to provide a solution for every type of data streaming requirement.”
Richard Artoul, co-founder and CEO of WarpStream, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We’re thrilled that Confluent, a leader in data streaming, has chosen WarpStream to advance next-gen BYOC solutions. Together, we’ll ensure that Kafka-compatible data streaming is accessible to every organization.”
Confluent anticipates that the acquisition will not significantly impact its financial results for the remainder of 2024.
